OUR HISTORY
Established in 2008, Bruin Vision Project serves to promote community awareness of local, national, and international healthcare needs. We provide eye-related services, known as health fairs, to the local underserved populations and encourage them to seek comprehensive examinations performed by eye doctors. We also involve students in various eye-related activities, such as educational and research opportunities, as well as invite professionals working in eye-related industries to our events.

We welcome any and all students who wish to learn more about vision care or those who have a passion for serving the community. Bruin Vision Project is a great place to meet others with similar interests and access valuable networking and educational opportunities along the way.

WHAT WE DO

General Meetings

We meet weekly to engage our members in a variety of activities. In the past, we have discussed famous artists with suspected visual impairments, explored medical ethics scenarios, brought in professionals such as ophthalmologists, and learned how to perform vision screenings.

Health Fairs

Throughout the year, Bruin Vision Project participates in various health fairs where members conduct vision screenings primarily using the Snellen Eye Chart. Organizations that we collaborate with include the UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic, Stein Eye Institute, Asian Pacific Health Corps (APHC), Pilipinos for Community Health, Alpha Epsilon Delta, Mobile Clinic Project at UCLA, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and the UCLA Pre-Optometry Society.

Committees

Members also have the opportunity to create and engage in smaller projects within the club by joining the Research, Educational Outreach, or Health Fair Committees. We hold weekly journal clubs for aspiring scientists, prepare presentations to middle school students at Islah Academy, and design infographics and resources to distribute at our health fairs.

Career Development

We host panels with optometrists, ophthalmologists, and graduate students, who offer career advice, networking opportunities, and even shadowing in the OR. Finally, BVP members participate in weekly Grand Rounds at the Stein Eye Institute.

Socials

Finally, BVP is a great place to meet new people and bond over socials such as ice-blocking, boba, pumpkin-decorating, and much more.
